3 – (Apr 21) Royal visits…every Canadian pays…again !

Dig into your pocket again! Charles and Camilla are coming back to Canada and you’re paying for the trip.

The Queen is not coming most likely because of age.

What do you think about monarchical visits to Canada at our expense?

Prince Charles And Camilla To Visit Canada For Country’s 150th Birthday

OTTAWA — Prince Charles and his wife Camilla will visit Canada this summer in time for the country’s birthday.

Governor General David Johnston says they have accepted the government’s invitation to undertake a tour.

The royal duo will be in Canada from June 29 to July 1.

They will travel in Ontario, Nunavut and the Ottawa area, where massive celebrations are planned to mark Canada’s 150th birthday.

Johnston says he is pleased they are joining the birthday bash and looks forward to Canadians being able to showcase the best of this country.

It will be the 18th visit to Canada for the Prince of Wales, and the fourth visit for the Duchess of Cornwall.

They were last in Canada in May 2014, when they visited Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Manitoba.

Monarchy or full independence
The real question here is whether the time has come for true national independence. Canada’s history has been tied to Britain ever since the victory at the Plains of Abraham. It is an acknowledged historical fact and has been recorded as such since the 18th century.

At what point is a nation “old enough” to become totally independent of the colonial parent?

It is historically very romantic to have royal traditions and regal connectivity but has its time passed? The price tag for a royal trip to Canada is in the millions paid by every citizen in Canada, and Prince Charles isn’t even an heir to the throne.

This visit is pointless. We have not real ties to Britain anymore. Our political status is totally independent. Our economic dependence is non existent, other than whatever commercial trade takes places freely. Our emotional ties should be completely national, eschewing all connectivity with Britain.

The history books will forever record the past connections with Britain. Romantic, emotional, patriotic but anachronistic. So what’s the point? And we pay !

What do you think?
