4 – (Apr 21) Toronto, a political bunch of cry babies

Toronto keeps whining about costs vs. revenues but the reality if is far removed from simple accountancy issues.

Toronto, quit whining and find a backbone.

The largest city in Canada seems to be the biggest whiner too. It sheds crocodile tears over revenue shortfalls when considering its expenditures. It whines that its transit system is in chaos. It complains that its traffic congestion costs it terrible financial loss. It begs Ottawa and Queen’s Park to send some financial assistance. The complaining, lamenting and whining never stops coming from Toronto City Hall.

Toronto City Council ceaseless blabbermouths
Toronto doesn’t have the nerve or courage to face the reality: it’s politicians talk incessantly, never taking any serious action. Canada would be in dire straits if its federal politicians operated the way Toronto’s do. Queen’s Park is likely failing in its delivery of good government because too many of its representatives are tainted by Toronto’s politicians.

Look at Toronto’s missteps (failures to act?)
Subway contract with Bombardier? Subway system? Decay and costly aging of infrastructures? Housing for the homeless? The list seems endless. The reason for these failures. One only, politicians who seem to bask in self glorification, egotistical status, personal media fame instead of actually doing the job. Debate, talk, discuss…if medals were awarded for these activities, Toronto’s politicians would walk away with Olympic Gold.

These politicians don’t act. They seem to bask in the glory of public debate, of media attention with little real concern about how the city declines with age.

Property taxes
The raison d’etre of Toronto politicians is re-election, not city management. The city crumbles around them, falls behind in relation to where it should be in regard to its infrastructure and environs and all these people can do is talk, argue and disagree. Rather than educating their electorate about the reality of city operational costs and municipal expenditures, these elected clods continually bite the media 10 seconds of fame, the sound bite that puts them before the public momentarily, before their own constituents for a fleeting moment.

Long ago, Torontonians should have been told “pay up or shut up.” Taxes in the city are too low, the second lowest in all of Canada. There is no free ride though these people believe in one and they have politicians who sing from the same song sheet.

A very sad situation to see Toronto claim world class status when it acts like a spoiled child wearing short pants!

Come on Toronto, grow up and elect some politicians who will face up to reality and act accordingly.

What do you think?
