Should the media avoid identifying people accused of crimes?

By publicly identifying people in criminal cases, the media destroys careers, terminates professional lives of people they name.

Even when a trial takes place and the accused is cleared of charges, the initial publication of the defendant’s name is a potential work life terminator for the accused. The accused’s name is tainted once the accusation has been made and no matter how the media retract it later.

Should the media stop publishing names of accused defendants in the media?
