VIVA smacks another HOME RUN with “Friends Forever” writing contest

The “Forever Friends” short story contest at VIVA Residences

JENN PRESENTS WINNING FRIEND

Jenn presents Diane’s friend Lynne with the winner’s award

VIVA Residences held a writing contest recently. I entered. I lost. Shucks. But rightfully so as I wrote about my second best friend, Fermo, the Scottish Terrier while everyone else wrote about people. And so, as disappointed as I am, I feel all the others should have won. Fermo may be a good friend, but he can never be as good a friend as a real person and Fermo and I are lucky that we have a person friend too, Nadia.

Once again, VIVA Residences must be congratulated on organizing another event held on October 1st which brought cheer, pleasure and enjoyment to the whole audience. Nine finalists read their “Friends Forever” contest submissions before three judges. The judges were challenged in picking a winner as every read piece tugged at the heart strings, twigged the emotions and even brought the hint of a tear among audience members.

WINNERS CLEAR

The smiling winners, Dianne and Lynne

The winner….Dianne and her best friend, Lynne. Dianne, a First Nations member, deserved to win as her piece included prose, poetry, cheering and lots of nostalgic anecdotes to which many could relate with their own friendship memories. But no one would dispute that all the other read pieces were winners also, even the one about Fermo was a great ‘runner up.’

Congratulations and thanks were due to event organizers, Maggie and Jenn, who may be Viva staff, but their hearts are involved in the job of supporting all the VIVA Residents in their endeavours and many activities. Bravo ladies and many thanks to you and to all your behind-the-scenes assistants.

NON PROPOSAL

A knelt proposal might have won the prize but his best friend says, “He’s my winner!”

Some lively tunes from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s had the VIVA crowd toe tappin’ after the conclusion of the readings.

SHOWTIME 03

The singing duo enlivened the whole crowd with their songs from the Fifties and Sixties.

VIVA Residences again surprises me in how lively and energetic it is in making their residents’ final chapter the really golden years !
