PICKERING: New Carbon Monoxide Alarm Rules in Effective Jan 1, 2026

We wanted to quickly share an important safety update from the City of Pickering and Pickering Fire Services.

Starting January 1, 2026, new Ontario Fire Code rules will take effect requiring expanded use of carbon monoxide (CO) alarms in homes and residential buildings. In short, the changes are intended to improve protection against carbon monoxide by requiring more alarms in more places, especially across multiple storeys and in multi-unit buildings.

This is an important update for homeowners, landlords, and tenants, and it’s a good idea to review how it may apply to your home well before the January 1 deadline.

For full details, responsibilities, and safety tips, please read the City’s official update here: https://www.pickering.ca/news/posts/pickering-fire-services-urges-public-to-prepare-for-new-carbon-monoxide-alarm-requirements/

As always, we’ll continue to share key updates that impact safety and compliance in our neighbourhood.
