Doug Cornell for Mayor – City of Pickering, 2026
Growth with Accountability. Infrastructure Built With You – Not Around You.
About Doug
Doug Cornell isn’t a career politician – he’s a Pickering resident who has spent his career solving problems, building teams, managing budgets, and holding people accountable. That’s the discipline he believes City Hall needs right now.
Doug has lived through his own share of challenges, and that experience has shaped how he listens and leads: with directness, patience, and a genuine desire to hear what residents are dealing with, not just tell them what they want to hear.
Why Doug Is Running
Pickering is growing fast – whether residents like it or not. The real question is whether that growth is being managed responsibly. Doug believes growth should improve life in Pickering, not make traffic worse, taxes higher, and neighbourhoods harder to live in.
Residents are paying more in taxes and fees, and they deserve to see more in return: more accountability, better planning, stronger infrastructure, and a City Hall that can clearly explain where the money is going.
What Doug Will Do
- Push for plain-language budget reporting, so residents can actually see where their tax dollars go.
- Tie new growth to infrastructure readiness – roads, transit, stormwater, schools, and recreation need to keep pace with development, not lag behind it.
- Hold regular resident town halls to listen before decisions are made, not after.
- Require clearer business cases for major City spending decisions.
- Protect neighbourhood character, greenspace, and waterfront access as Pickering grows.
- Bring stronger accountability to the use of strong mayor powers.
Doug’s Approach
Pickering has a bright future – but residents deserve better planning, better accountability, and a mayor who listens before decisions are already made.
