The PICKERING BOOK CLUB is a small group of avid readers created by the PICKERING LIBRARY. We meet monthly at our local branch library where we exchange opinions about the month’s selected read.
MAJOR PETTIGREW’S LAST STAND
by Helen Simonson,
a novel set in England some 20 years ago, we guessed. The club members unanimously agreed Simonson’s first novel was a well written romance about an older widow and widower who find sparks still fly even when the flames have become more like embers.
CALEB’S CROSSING
by Geraldine Brooks
is read. I look forward to the new reading, again with some trepidation as the first book was the kind I would put high on my list of ‘must reads.’ Yet, that book I will grudgingly categorize as an genuine winner!
