Door-to-door knocking…
Here’s a candidate who is steadfast in her determination and goal-focussed in her dedication.
Priya Vadivel knocked on my door yesterday and it led to an enjoyable half hour of information and interesting conversation.
Her campaigning
With sincere modesty and sound humility, Vadivel talks about her campaign with intelligence and more experience than her youthful looks would suggest. She clearly understands the challenges before her but remains unshaken by them.
She dived into the deep end of the political campaigning pool with her door-knocking campaign, an arduous and demanding part of campaigning. Having already knocked on more than a thousand doors, she projects the work to be completed the first time through by the end of August. That’s how successful campaigns are done…worn soles and raw knuckles.
Council challenges
Far from being an idealistic dreamer, Vadivel recognizes that being a new councillor will be a role with its own challenges, compounded by hurdles she already faces in her campaign: gender and ethnicity. These are bumps in the campaign road but not insurmountable obstacles in her eyes.
Encouraged by her husband and kids and weekly video phone calls to her father in India, Vadivel seems undaunted by her first-ever mountain of a campaign.
Her policies and platforms
Her platform includes fiscal responsibility by tax accountability, regular reviewing and broadening the Pickering tax base to reduce the tax burden on every resident. She believes in the development of Pickering’s pastoral environment with improved bylaw regulations and controls. Seniors are on her political plate with tax relief and advocacy for more community living spaces and greater availability of home care. Finally, she advocates for greater community safety, believing home and neighbourhood safety and security can be improved with more efficient and effective traffic regulation, greater neighbourhood safety with better lighting and sidewalk and residential street improvements and greater collaboration with law enforcement at all levels.
In short, Vadivel feels living in the Pickering region can be improved even more through regular reviews, consistent regulation and steadfast goals.
A final word
Given the commitment and certainty Vadivel exudes, voters will view her as a politician who will work hard to fulfil her promises.
