MY VIEW: POPPY CAMPAIGN

Recently I wrote a note to elected representatives regarding the Poppy Campaign which was having dismal results.

One recipient saw my note as offensive; that I was shaming reps for not donating. I apologized.

However, I want to take back my apology. And if the “shame shoe” fits, wear it. I never fought in any war, thank God. But so many did, and many never returned. Those who did return were incredibly damaged and scarred. They are the Veterans at whom I hope Poppy Campaign revenues are directed. These survivors likely suffer beyond easy description. If they get financial support that helps them get the assistance they need, I am all for it. If my push for Poppy sales sounds shameful. Too bad. It’s shameful if you aren’t donating.

My message included a ‘waiver’ asking those who had donated elsewhere to inform me so that my broad “shame” brush did not wrongfully paint them. That part of my message seems to have been overlooked.

I stand by my original message.  Donate to the Poppy Campaign.
