POLITICS: Israel may not merit the respect many think it should

OK…in response to the Hamas led massacre in the fall of 2024, Israel’s aggressive response with the goal of eliminating Hamas may have been justifiable at the outset but when it reached more than 50,000 killed in Gaza, the justification is no longer warranted.

At that point where more than 50,000 palestinians were killed, Israel has gone into genocidal territory. I am no longer a Zionist but now see that nation as beginning to verge comparison with the worst of genocidally bent nations. Then with the launch of attacks on Iran claiming nuclear armament fears, once again Israel may be in a position that is justifiable. But the country’s leaders are demonstrating that they first response is military attacks rather than negotiating table talks.

Publish openly with evidence Iran’s violation of non-proliferation treaty accords. Show Iran to be a ‘black’ nation bent on destruction of neighbouring nations, Israel in particular. But having missile attacks as the first response is unacceptable. Israel is making itself look like a war mongerer. Maybe there is justification in the old addage, “the best defense is a good offense.” But surely, other nations would present open support for Israel in its opposition and fear of Iran.

Iran is no ‘clear-cut victim’ here. Hiding behind the shield of religious leadership, they are far from sin-free. The “Supreme Leader” smacks of coming off the pages of Orwell’s 1984. This isn’t a nation adhering to any religious tenets. How can a nation that is develop nuclear weapon capabilities claim it is not readying itself for war? The non-proliferation treaty inspectors have uncovered Iran’s nuclear development when it signed adherence to the accord. Lip service, lies, hypocrisy, deceit and deception…Iran is as ‘black’ as can be.

Israel may be justified in attacking Iran based on its claims of nuclear arms development. Perhaps calls to the negotiating table were unheeded. Most certainly, weapons development capability was something Iran promised to not do. They lied. Israel’s attacks my be justifiable…but expansion of the war is inevitable when you have lying, hypocritical religious leaders.

What the rest of the world can do is very debatable if not without solution.

What do you think?
