TorStar contributor wrote an excellent column, “Job hunting is so bad….” ( JOBHUNTING ) about how we are mistreating, lying, ignoring, disregarding and bull shitting young people.
Here is an attempt at encapsulating what Schofield writes…
- resumes from young people never read by humans
- companies disregard resume submissions from young people
- piss poor email etiquette as recipient never acknowledge receipt of emails
- causing discouragement and depression with false hopes among the young
Govts and businesses at fault
Both govts and business are guilty of false information, if not intentional lying.
Govts try to make 2.8% inflation rate sound good. Try explaining that to the single mother imprisoned in a one-bedroom apartment with her two kids when she goes food shopping or food bank attendance each month.
Businesses offer falsehoods also, making it sound like they are hiring when they are actually just developing databases for future marketing purposes. Meanwhile, poor jobless young people submit endless job applications which never receive a response or a reply.
Schofield underlines that poor email etiquette of not replying and she is right. She urges there be a hall of shame created naming those companies. Nice suggestion but to no avail. Nobody will do it though some companies should be blacklisted for their disregard of job application submissions for certain.
