A resident recently asked me an interesting question about opportunity cost and how it should influence decisions at City Hall.
Financial Management
It’s a great question because it gets to the heart of responsible financial management.
In finance, opportunity cost simply means understanding what we’re giving up when we choose one option over another. Every dollar spent on one project is a dollar that can’t be spent somewhere else. But I believe good municipal decision-making goes even further. Before approving significant investments, Council should ask: • Is this the best use of taxpayer dollars? • What alternatives were considered? • What are the long-term costs? • What risks are involved? • Will this provide lasting value for residents?
Throughout my career, I’ve helped organizations make difficult financial decisions by asking these kinds of questions. If elected, I would bring that same disciplined, evidence-based approach to Council.
Residents deserve decisions that are transparent, thoughtful, and focused on long-term value, not just today’s headlines.
I’d like to hear from you
