Pickering councillors have been warned repeatedly about the risks and problems with eScooters…the warnings have falleng on deaf ears. I have written about eScooters months ago, Now others are drawing attention to their risks and dangers. But the Councillor continue to ignore the problem.
EScooters should be regulated and restricted, possibly licensed to minimize their consequences of unregulated and open street use.

EScooters are now a disaster waiting to happen, These are happening now, often and throughout the city. And the City of Pickering has even contracted to an eScooter company to provide them throughout the city where anyone can use it as they wish.
These unregulated eScooter users ride without proper training, often without any safety gear like helmets and wrist protectors. The abandoned scooters are dropped anywhere in the City when the user is finished with it. Often the users are very young, as young as 10 or 11 years old.
Unregulated and uncontrolled eScooters are a danger everywhere. Pedestrians risk being hit by them. Hospitals are seeing alarming rise in eScooter injuries and these injuries are usually very serious as the devices can be driven at high speeds, 30-40 kph. Hitting a solid structure unprotected inevitably results in extreme injuries as hospitals have affirmed.
