A smashing success again this year!
Once again, Elisabeth Hazelton and her team, most notably Karen Benjamin-Francis, and many other assistants hosted another very successful block party.
Well over 100 people, neighbours, their families, their friends and invited guests were treated to the best of homemade eats and bites. Chef Ryan, (a terrific story behind him) son of neighbours Karen and Ray, did his renowned BBQ ribs to everyone’s tasty satisfaction. But many of the neighbourhood ‘chefs’ contributed homemade goodies that were absolutely delicious.
Though this was not a political event in any way, a number of candidates attended as guests as they had in previous years: Maurice Brenner, Doug Cornell, Janice Frampton, Priya Vadivel. All of them joined in the festivities as regular Pickering neighbours rather than campaigning politicians even though they are in the middle of an election. Bravo candidates !
Hazelton and her stalwart assistant, Karen, are owed more than just ‘thanks’ for managing this event which take weeks of preparation and hours of hard work. There are many people who are behind the scenes from the food prep personnel to the physical assistant workers who set up the tables and BBQ, all of these people are very deserving of the limelight and appreciation.
A marvellous event successfully done by a marvellous group of neighbours for a marvellous neighbourhood. And I am lucky to live in it !!!
