VIAPIANA, VINCE – Meet the candidate

Ward 2 City Councillor Candidate
Pickering Municipal Election, Monday, October 26, 2026

Vince Viapiana, Ward 2 City Councillor candidate

Vince Viapiana is running for Pickering City Council in Ward 2 under the campaign theme “Leadership Starts with Listening.” He says residents deserve a councillor who is passionate about the city and its people, and who is accessible, accountable and willing to do the work, not just during an election, but throughout the entire term.

Not a Career Politician

Viapiana describes himself as a resident, a working person and a community advocate rather than a career politician. He has spent almost 19 years in public-facing transit service with the TTC. He says that experience taught him the importance of listening to people, dealing with problems as they arise, working with different stakeholders and following through when someone brings forward a concern.

A Full-Time Campaign

Four months ago, Viapiana took an unpaid leave of absence from his job to devote himself to the campaign and to spend his time speaking with the residents he is asking to represent.

He has personally distributed close to 12,000 flyers and knocked on doors throughout Ward 2, holding conversations with residents about their concerns, their neighbourhoods and their vision for Pickering. Almost 100 residents have asked for a Vince Viapiana sign on their lawn, which he sees not simply as campaign support, but as a reflection of the relationships built along the way.

Taking Part in the Process

Viapiana has also participated directly in the municipal process. At the request of residents, he prepared and delivered a five-minute delegation at the City’s Statutory Electronic Meeting on the proposed development at Liverpool Road and Glenanna Road, placing the concerns he had heard from residents on the public record.

In His Words

“This campaign has reinforced something I already believed: you cannot represent a community effectively if you are not willing to be in the community.”
— Vince Viapiana
