Remembrance Day is a day to remember….first, our vets.
Fewer and fewer vets…
Thank goodness, there are fewer and fewer vets. Not because they old vets are dying off, though they are. But because there are very few new vets to replace those who have passed away.
Fewer wars, very regional, localized wars
Today we have fewer wars. The ones that are still raging, are smaller, more regional, more localized. Again, thank goodness. Regional, smaller wars means fewer troops are mobilized, fewer troops are shipped out. In short, fewer soldiers are needed.
Fewer troops means fewer vets
With few troops, decreased enlistment, fewer soldiers engaged in combat, the number of soldiers coming back home is smaller. Fewer number shipped out, reduced numbers returning home. The number of troops on the table for the smaller and fewer conflicts is shrinking or has shrunk. Therefore, there are fewer soldiers out there and the number returning is a lot less nowadays. Thank goodness.
Fewer vets as time passes
With time passing, we lose the old vets who are still with us. Life passes for all of us and for the number of vets who we have, their numbers diminish year after year. May those who are gone rest in peace.
