NYE, JAMIE – WARD 1 COUNCILLOR

Ward 1 City Councillor Candidate
Pickering Municipal Election, Monday, October 26, 2026

Jamie Nye, Pickering Ward 1 City Councillor candidate

Jamie Nye, a nuclear electrician and former film and television locations manager, is running for Ward 1 City Councillor in Pickering. He says his work experience, community service and past political campaigns give him the right set of tools to represent Ward 1.

A 32-Year Pickering Resident

Nye has lived in Pickering for 32 years. He raised his family here and attended Dunbarton High School.

Nuclear Electrician

Nye works as a nuclear electrician and was recently part of the refurbishment of the Darlington Generating Station. He explains that there are two kinds of jobs in nuclear: working in a dangerous, high-radiation area, and monitoring the person working in that area from a control room. He has done both, and says each requires focus, care and competency because the risk can be high.

As an electrician, he has also travelled and worked across Canada on many kinds of infrastructure projects, including wastewater, refineries, communications, data centres and manufacturing.

Bringing Film and Television to Pickering

His first career was in the locations department of the film and television industry, where he spent his last few years as a manager. He describes the work as logistics-heavy, with a team, budgets, hard deadlines and 100-hour work weeks that were commonplace. Nye says he was the one who brought filming to Pickering years ago, and that the results have been very good for the city.

Active in the Community

Nye has fundraised and volunteered for the Durham Métis Society and the Terry Fox Run. He also formed Team Jamie, which spends weekends cleaning up his Woodlands neighbourhood and Frenchman’s Bay.

Political Experience

Nye has previously run for office both provincially and federally. He says the relationships and connections he built in those campaigns will be invaluable as a councillor.

His Platform at a Glance

Nye’s platform centres on a seven-point plan to tackle property taxes, including a line-by-line budget review and a motion to review council perks such as the $1,000-a-month vehicle allowance. He also proposes a new Lakeridge Health hospital, an agricultural college on the Airport Lands, recreation upgrades, the purchase of Frenchman’s Bay, and a hybrid transit option using Uber for isolated residents.
