SNYDER, Timothy: American historian, writer and commentator

SNYDER, Timothy is a prominent historian and public intellectual specializing in modern European history, with particular expertise in Central Europe, Ukraine, the Soviet Union, and the Holocaust. He holds the inaugural Temerty Chair in Modern European History at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto, is a permanent fellow at Vienna’s Institute for Human Sciences, and leads the academic advisory council of the Ukrainian History Global Initiative. A distinguished linguist, Snyder speaks five European languages and reads ten, enabling deep engagement with a wide range of historical sources. He is the author or editor of twenty books translated into forty languages and is widely published in the press on topics including Ukraine, authoritarianism, U.S. politics, digital governance, health, and education. Snyder frequently appears in documentaries, on television, and before parliaments as an expert witness.
