How to create a dynamically wired brain

To help preserve your mental functions (like memory and thinking speed), you want to create as many connections in your brain as possible.

The more densely wired your brain, the more effective and efficient it will be.

A resilient brain is:

  • Dynamically wired.
  • Adaptable in the face of challenge.
  • Able to improvise and find alternate ways of getting a particular job done.

A resilient brain isn’t born; it is created. Here’s how:

  1. LIVE AN ENGAGED LIFE

Engagement means acquiring information that is new and challenging *to you*. WARNING: There is no finite list of activities that fit this requirement. Our personalized list of challenging activities is unique to each of us ~ and ever changing.

  1. MOVE YOUR BODY

Research demonstrates that movement helps new brain cells mature + survive, allowing them the opportunity to connect to existing neural networks.

Physical activity protects the structures of the brain (including slowing down age-related loss of brain volume).

  1. GET CREATIVE

Allow your mind the freedom to explore outside-of-the-box thinking. Neuroscience shows us that creativity requires shutting down the frontal part of your brain (responsible for higher-level & logical thinking).

By shutting down the rational, logical part of your brain, you allow more outside-of-the-box thinking to take place. While relaxing, your subconscious mind has the opportunity to put the puzzle pieces together in random and unexpected ways – ultimately creating NEW neural connections and a dynamically wired brain.
