Police were called to reports of a stolen car at about 1:30 a.m., the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said in a news release Monday.
Officer struck by perpetrator driven vehicle
Officers in cruisers tried to block the car on Leaside Bridge, the SIU said. The driver tried to flee in the stolen car and struck an officer who was on foot. Officers fired multiple shots at the driver.
Teen and subteen arrested
The driver and two other occupants in the car, a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old, fled n the car, according to the release. The car was abandoned at Floyd Street and Donlands Avenue, and the driver was arrested nearby. The boy was taken to hospital where he is being treated for injuries that aren’t life-threatening.
The officer was also treated and released from hospital.
The 12-year-old boy was arrested on foot at Mortimer and Donlands avenues, SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette told reporters at a news conference at the scene Monday.
Four police officers — two each in two police vehicles — tried to stop the driver of the stolen vehicle, Denette said.
