We live in very troubling times. Perhaps this is not any different than other times. World peace is nonexistent with combat zones scattered throughout the world. Climate change is wreaking havoc on our environment, disrupting our climatic conditions severely in winter and summer. But the most troublesome issue affecting all of us is the cost-of-living.

David Olive, Toronto Star columnist, has written an excellent article explaining how we are in a crisis in relation to the cost of living. Each week, grocery bills are higher. Each month, home utility bills increase. Everywhere we turn, prices for the goods and services we use rise noticeably, sometimes drastically. And many Canadians are living with constant food insecurity, setting and resetting new records for the number of food bank visits.

Blame must be placed were it should be. This chaos and mess in which we are living is the fault of our political leaders.
___________
Political leaders are responsible for the chaos and upheaval with our living conditions. Of course, they cannot be blamed for all our problems, but they are the cause of many of them. Their failings lie in many areas: short-sightedness, poor planning, unsatisfactory policy adaptation in relation to evident areas of trouble, ineptness in fulfilling their roles, and lack of accountability for the failures. The list can easily grow. However, the politicians are not the ones who are suffering.
Ever wonder how many times these Canadian politicians visited any food bank?

That Markham mayor’s salary is a shocker compared to other mayors, even Toronto Mayor Chow.
Our government leaders are causing our cost-of-living situation. But full blame should not be placed on politicians’ shoulders without some caveats.
Most politicians do the best job they can, and most are considerate of their voters. Because they want to be re-elected is being glib and though it may be valid, most politicians strive to do the right thing for their constituents.
However, we citizens are partly to blame for the current situation. When was the last time you attended a local politician’s town hall? When was the last time you spoke to your local politician face-to-face? Most politicians are out mixing with their constituents daily. And each of them needs reminders and prodding to reset their attention to the legitimate and practical problems within the constituency.
Be all that as it may, be reminded politicians will always paint a rosier picture than reality. Human nature for anyone in that role. So if you aren’t happy with the cost-of-living situation where you now live, act on it. Phone your elected official to voice your concerns, your worries, and your situation. Attend the local politician’s town halls so you can voice your situation with others who likely have similar issues.
