Neighbourhood Crime Alert – Attempted Theft
A suspected attempted theft that occurred on Alanbury Crescent.
Incident details:
Date: December 23, 2025
Time: Approximately 7:30 a.m.
Location: Alanbury Crescent
What was reported:
A resident was shovelling their driveway when a black sedan stopped in the middle of the street. The passenger rolled down their window and told the resident they wanted to “give them something,” then began exiting the vehicle.
The resident declined and immediately retreated into their garage. At that point, the individual stopped, returned to the vehicle, drove further up the street, paused briefly, and then left the area.
No physical contact, theft, or injuries were reported.
Why this is concerning:
The reporting resident indicated a very similar incident recently occurred in Bowmanville, where a person was approached in the same manner and had an expensive necklace stolen. The approach appears to rely on close physical proximity under the pretense of offering something, which can be used to quickly steal jewellery or items from pockets.
Please be cautious of this approach:
- Be wary of strangers attempting to get close to you unexpectedly
- Do not engage with individuals insisting on giving you something
- Maintain distance and trust your instincts
- Move to a safe location immediately if something feels off
- Staying vigilant matters
Be cautious and very wary:
This incident serves as an important reminder to remain alert, especially during daytime activities such as shovelling, yard work, or unloading vehicles.
If you witness suspicious behaviour or feel unsafe, report it to police immediately. Prompt reporting helps identify patterns and prevent further incidents.
As always: Trust your instincts, keep your distance, and report suspicious activity.
