eScooters are incredibly dangerous and should banned or strictly regulated by municipalities.
Some people have advocated better policing by police to manage and control users of eScooters. The police have enough to do already. Adding management and regulation of eScooter use is giving police additional work to their already heavy work load.
Instead, license eScooter users. The license buys the user a bright decal wearable on the scooter or on their clothing indicating they are a licensed user. Licensed users must have insurance to be licensed by the City. Users caught without a license should have their eScooters impounded retrievable upon payment of a significant penlaty or fine. Thus, user freedoms are not limited but their safety and security is better controlled.
No insurance, no decal, no license, no eSCooter use.
I have written about eScooter danger and their risk many times but the City of Pickering is either deaf to these verbal cautions or revenue generation by the eScooter company is more important than resident safety and security. Even election candidates have written extensively about these dangerous vehicles, see John Meloche. But again profit trumps practicality.
