Hell’s Corner, David Baldacci

Hell’s Corner
The Camel Club series
David Baldacci

Synopsis
Oliver Stone and the Camel Club star in #1 bestselling author David Baldacci’s most stunning adventure of the series. An attack on the heart of power . . . In sight of the White House . . . At a place known as .. Hell’s Corner!

John Carr, aka Oliver Stone, once the most skilled assassin his country ever had, stands in Lafayette Park in front of the White House, perhaps for the last time. The president has personally requested him to serve his country again on a high-risk, covert mission. Though he’s fought for decades to leave his past career behind, Stone has no choice but to say, “Yes.”

Stone’s mission changes drastically before it even begins. It’s the night of a state dinner honoring the British prime minister. As he watches the PM’s motorcade leave the White House, a bomb detonates in the park, an apparent terrorist attack. In the chaotic aftermath, Stone takes on a new, more urgent assignment: find those responsible. British MI-6 agent Mary Chapman becomes Stone’s partner in the search. But their opponents are elusive and increasingly lethal, and Stone enlists the help of the only people he knows he can trust: the Camel Club.

Richard says
Another book in Baldacci’s ‘Camel Club’ s.’

As the others, Hell’s Corner  is another excellent read in Baldacci’s ‘Camel Club’ series. The plot is believable, the action intense and the hero, Oliver Stone, is a believable blend of James Bond and Eastwood’s Dirty Harry.

It is quite amazing how Baldacci can extract page after page of intensity and excitement for a simple storyline, an explosion in the park in front of the American Whitehouse but he milks a hell of an engaging story out of it with some great characters, with the primary one being Oliver Stone (John Carr) is a senior aged James Bond/Dirty Harry blend but believable.

The British female agent is engaging and a great foil to Stone.

The book is for those who like thrillers set in modern America, filled with political intrigue, action and suspense.

Again, Baldacci writes a very readable and entertaining story though one must remember these stories are adult comic books in a literary style. Each is an enjoyable read that will satisfy and engage you for a few days. Basically, it’s good reading.
