MELOCHE CAMPAIGN POST: Clean, clear, concise, read as you need

Election candidates have diverse platforms and many ways of being expressed. What is important about this is that they need to think how voters will access this information, how it will be received and if it helps voters become better informed.

My website has a number of candidates who took advantage of free publicity of their campaign material. “Free publicity,” not free promotion. Though I may have candidate preferences personally, I avoid showing that bias on my website as voters should be able to come to their own decisions independently, not by any push by a third party.

In light of the above, I would like to comment about the campaign material which I have received for publication. Candidates need to consider the medium or vehicle they are using for their material. Digital material has the advantage of being dynamic, changeable as often as needed, whereas hard copy material is static, changeable only at the next printing.

Regardless of means of publicity, all candidates should consider what is the barebones essential of their material: name, contact information, campaign office link, phone number and a short blurb about their platform. One candidate’s material stands head and shoulders above the rest.

John Meloche’s campaign material is a model for others. Not only is his material very comprehensive covering almost everything he should, but its presentation is excellent.

In print, his material is a page of information that looks very comprehensive and it is. It is a single page that covers a lot of aspects of his campaign material. However, in digital form, his material really excels. His material, grouped into sections with subheadings, is collapsible and expandable as to the interest of the reader. The material is clean, uncluttered and concise but if a voter wants more information about an item, click and it expands. Click again, and it collapses out of the way.

Meloche’s material covers everything he wants but does it in a “not-in-your-face-way.” Click, view and read; click again, closed and shelved. Beautifully efficient, effective and engaging.

Campaign material presented excellently!
