Ward 2 City Councillor Candidate
Pickering Municipal Election, Monday, October 26, 2026

John Meloche is running for Pickering City Council in Ward 2 under the campaign theme “Practical leadership. Real opportunity. A city our kids can come home to.” He says Pickering is at a crossroads: the city is approving homes at a record pace, yet young people still can’t afford to live here and many neighbours still commute to Toronto for a decent wage.
Family Man and Long-Time Resident
Meloche has been married for 17 years and is the father of three, with two young boys still at home. He has lived in Pickering since 2010, in the Finch and Dixie area.
An Operator, Not a Career Politician
A tech entrepreneur, Meloche has spent more than 18 years bootstrapping his own business, with no loans and no inheritance. He describes himself as “an operator, a neighbour, and a father” rather than a career politician.
Active in the Community
Meloche is co-founder and president of the Lynn Heights Neighbourhood Association, which he describes as Pickering’s largest ratepayer association, with about 275 members, and Ward 2’s only neighbourhood association. He says he is already doing much of the job unofficially through that role. He also supports the Pickering Animal Shelter and the St. Paul’s on the Hill Food Bank.
Why He’s Running
Meloche points to a rising cost of living, growth that he says is producing “bedrooms and highway exits, not careers,” long-time small businesses being pushed out by speculative redevelopment, and daily traffic congestion. He wants practical leadership at the council table: real careers, fair-deal development and a councillor who actually answers residents’ email.
In His Words
“Practical. Civil. Available. Let’s build a Ward 2 our kids come back to.”
— John Meloche
