OPEN LETTER to the Director of the St. Paul on the Hill Food Bank

Lindsey Morrill
Director of the St. Paul on the Hill Food Bank

Dear Ms. Morrill,

Let me explain why I have started a “stop donating to the food bank” campaign.

I am really irritated, pissed off, with the record-setting use of Food Banks. The more we give, the more they come. There is something drastically wrong with how governments are failing the people who use food banks. I published a “stop donating to Food Banks” post not because I want your supplies cut off but because I want people to complain, criticize and scream at governments to improve life for your clients. Most likely, your clientele is spread across all socioeconomic demographics. That exacerbates the problem. Instead of seeing fewer users, you are seeing more and from all social levels.

The governments, the politicians don’t seem to be succeeding in resolving the problem. They should be and they publish how they are tackling the problems so voters could feel the elected officials are worthy of their votes.

Politicians should take up the slack any stop-donating campaign causes. I doubt you will hear from them any more than you have now. Maybe voters might remember all this during the next election campaign.

Help me prod them Lindsey. Tell us how much money you need monthly so we can notify them clearly about this need and tell them how much they need to give…and not out of taxpayers’ pockets but out of their own.

Salaries of elected officials:

  • Base salary (backbench MP): $209,800(343 MPs in Ottawa)
  • Prime Minister: $406,200
  • Leader of the Opposition: $299,900
  • Cabinet Ministers: $299,900(28 cab minsts. Currently)
  • Party Leaders: $271,700

The combined salaries received by the elected officials in Ottawa and in Ontario is $92,148,729. You think they might have a few bucks to help any shortfall you have in donations?

Best,
Richard Szpin
