PICKERING: Controversy over “Urban sprawl” is as clear as mud

COMMENTARY

Mayor Ashe vs Lisa Robinson…again.

The two politicians see URBAN SPRAWL differently. Ashe’s view is not clear enough to summarize, Robinson’s is.

Robinson sees URBAN SPRAWL as any kind of urbanization that impacts/reduces agricultural lands, green areas of the region. So anything that is urban related and developed and impacts on the local environment is unacceptable.

Robinson’s take on URBAN SPRAWL seems very succinct and clear. Leave our green areas alone, may be over simplifying but she definitely opposes Ashe in his urban development.

These councillors need to get their acts together and express what they want, represent and stand for in terms that the average resident can understand. Simplify and make it succinct, use bullets, use subheadings, read it aloud, objectively. Does it make sense? Is it to the point? Is it clear? Succinct? To the point?

If these councillors want support for the views, they have to explain those views in a way that the average resident can understand easily. Requiring the reader to analyze, dissect, interpret, and closely inspect won’t cut it.
