Councillor ordered to pay back legal fees after third judicial review
Durham radionews, Jan 24/26
The Superior Court of Justice is ruling in favor of the City of Pickering after a third judicial review was initiated by Councillor Lisa Robinson.
In its latest ruling, the Court found the Integrity Commissioner’s findings were reasonable and found no evidence of a breach of procedural fairness.
The findings allege Robinson made false claims about the city and deliberately misrepresented city policy.
“While I am pleased with this legal victory, which serves as a complete and thorough vindication of the city, Members of Council, and our staff, I sincerely hope we can now move forward with the business of the city,” said Kevin Ashe, Mayor of Pickering. “Moving ahead constructively is in everyone’s best interest. Our community deserves our full focus on the important work before us, and that is where we intend to direct our collective efforts.”
The Ontario Divisional Court has ordered Councillor Robinson to reimburse the City of Pickering $10-thousand dollars in legal costs.
The city claims they’re responsible for well over $100-thousand dollars in legal fees stemming from the councillor’s repeated judicial reviews.
