Ari Goldkind, a 19 year veteran in the courts, criticizes Mayor Kevin Ashe for his “mental illness” comments about the murder in north-central Pickering in May.
I am reminded about the Devil and God disputing a situation that required legal expertise. God said, “We’ll have to have lawyers resolve the matter.” The Devil retorted, “Ha, you’ve lost then. You haven’t got any lawyers up there. I’ve got all of them down here.”
Goldkind should take the joke seriously. Ashe was not cutting the accused any slack for the crime. Rather he was trying to colour in some of the missing shades to the story but this ‘lawyer’ felt the Mayor’s comments were a criticism that could be applied very broadly, giving the accused some excuse for the stabbing.
I feel sorry the Mayor is being slanted for his stated opinion but I find Goldkind’s comments are unacceptable, shallow-minded and without merit. He’s a lawyer !
