Next mayor of Pickering????
Is there a chance? Bet on it. Elections are not as predictable as polls would have you think. Lisa Robinson is a registered candidate running for the office of Mayor of Pickering.
Without argument, Councillor Robinson has been the center of much controversy and disruption in the City Hall Council meetings frequently. However, as the case may be, many residents found her declarations as acceptable and worth supporting.
She has defended minorities. She has supported polarized groups for whom support is justified. Often, she has criticized the current council regarding expenses, regarding development, regarding partnership with developers. She has not feared taking stands that seem on the periphery of what many residents may not support. However, many of those residents view her positions as worthwhile and supportable. Those people are voters and they may consider voting for ROBINSON in October.
Will ROBINSON have enough supporters to win the mayoralty race? That is the big question. Robinson feels she will have it. Ashe cannot ignore the possibility it may be there for her. There is no definitive statement that can be made about how to voters wll vote. However, most certainly there are a significant number of voters who give ROBINSON serious consideration in this municipal election.
A few things to her credit:
- she has a lot of courage to take on a powerhouse candidate like Ashe;
- her history of controversy is not an issue in her eyes;
- she’s got the chutzpah in thinking she has a competitive chance,
- she has made the mayoralty race now, a competiton;
- Ashe knows in elections nothing can be taken for granted and Lisa Robinson’s candidacy must be taken very seriously.
Wow, the race for mayor of Pickering has just become interesting, watchable and exciting.
