PICKERING: Mayor Ashe – APRIL MONTHLY RECAP

Hey Pickering, it’s Mayor Kavanash. I’m here for my monthly recap of the going on of our council, council recap of April 27th. Started on a good note. We entered into a agreement with an institution in Greenwood, the Shuttlebug Weavers and Spinners Guild over 40 years of history in Greenwood, and we found them a home at our museum village, which I think is fantastic.

With the opening of our new Dorsey Community Center that’s why we needed to find them a new facility as our Greenwood Community Center will be demolished and replaced with a beautiful new facility. Also passed the zoning bylaw for the new commercial plaza at Taunton and Burkholder. Was there last week for the groundbreaking. Fantastic move forward in terms of getting services for our new residents in Seton. And follow this channel for more information about more services up in Seton, including our discussions about getting a new rec center.

We also received the 25 2025 year-end report and 2026 work plan for the Cultural Advisory Committee, important work that our volunteers in our community do in that i-in that committee. Also announced and, and entered into grants for two new parks, again in our center and northern communities. A new park is being constructed in Claremont as well as a new community park, community park, big, big park in Seton named after our former mayor, Dave Ryan, Park. Gonna have a lot of f infrastructure there, and it’ll be a welcoming place for, again, our new residents in Seton.

Large development was approved on Monday as well Pickering Ridge, which is over where CORAS is, as most people would know. Long-term, decades’ worth of buildings are gonna go up there in terms of residential. It’s a very large site, so they’re one of the most important aspects of this approval was the commitment to kind of move the tenants around, the retail tenants. And I think it can be something we can look forward to as we develop, redevelop other pieces of property.

We also approved a seasonal patio f-for the open studio arts café on Liverpool Road in the heart of our nautical village. And I, I welcome you to go down to our nautical village. As the weather’s turning now, more and more people will be going down there. Also again, the nitty-gritty of government. We approved $3 million in road resurfacing. It’s been a brutal winter for our roads. Potholes have been hopefully filled in in many places, but we’re doing infrastructure renewal. And this was $3 million of a $5.2 million budget for road restructuring. So that’s the update on the council of April 27th.

Wanna invite everybody to Esplanade Park next Saturday, May 9th, for Petapolooza. It’s a place when a time you can bring your own pet, and there’ll be vendors. There’ll be rescue teams. There’ll also be an opportunity to raise money for our brand new animal shelter, which is gonna be happening in Seton.

So folks, that’s it. If you have any questions or comments about city services, customer care@pickering.ca. Questions of the mayor, mayor@pickering.ca. Thanks and thanks for watching.
