Wonderbrands groundbreaks giant operation in Pickering:
- Wonderbrands Innovation Park: A 151-acre food manufacturing campus in Pickering, Ontario, developed by FGF Brands, a leading bakery company in North America.
- FGF Brands’ acquisition of George Weston Bakeries: FGF Brands bought the fresh and frozen bakery division of George Weston, a 141-year-old Canadian company, for $1.2 billion in 20211.
- FGF Brands’ success story: FGF Brands was founded by two brothers in 2004 and grew to become the largest producer of fresh breads, rolls, croissants, muffins and sweet goods in North America, using robotics, AI and supply chain innovations2.
- Pickering Innovation Corridor: A strategic location for economic development in Seaton, with access to major highways, rail lines and airports3. Seaton is expected to house 70,000 residents and provide 35,000 jobs when fully built out.

I just have to wonder how much of the needed infrastructure will be in place when this new economic engine starts up in Pickering. I shudder to think how the roads will be clogged with traffic, and how many more of these cookie-cutter, very bland looking town homes will have to be built to accommodate newcomers. Just a thought and doing the math.
