POLITICS: Conservative Party candidate nomination in Pickering-Brooklin

The Conservative Party is undertaking the nomination process for a candidate to represent the riding of Pickering-Brooklin. An invitation to participate in the process has been issued by the Party explaining that to do so requires membership in the party.

It is a disappointing situation for those who may wish to participate in the process but are unwilling to pay for it. Participation in the democratic process should not depend on the depths of one’s purse. For those who may be interested, the party’s invitation is displayed below:

Dear Richard Szpin,

The Conservative Party of Canada has officially opened the candidate nomination process for Pickering-Brooklin.

This is an exciting and important moment for our Electoral District Association. It marks the beginning of the next chapter as we work together to elect a strong Conservative representative — and to help deliver a Conservative Majority government led by Pierre Poilievre.

Now is the time for Conservatives in our community to step forward.

There are several important ways you can get involved:

1. Become a Member: Only members in good standing can participate in the nomination process and vote to select our Conservative candidate. If you are not yet a member — or if your membership has lapsed — now is the time to join or renew to vote in the nomination.

2. Encourage Strong Candidates: If you know someone who would make an outstanding Conservative candidate, now is the time to encourage them to come forward. Individuals interested in seeking the nomination should contact our Regional Organizer to begin the application process or reach out to the EDA.

3. Vote in the Nomination: The nomination vote is one of the most important democratic exercises within our Party to select our Conservative Candidate in the next election. Your voice as a member matters. Your vote as a member matters. Be ready to participate when the meeting is called. You must be a member. To vote in the candidate nomination; a person must:

✔ Be a Conservative Party member (Become a member)
✔ Have been a member before the Close of Nominations
✔ Reside in the Pickering-Brooklin riding
✔ Vote in person (no proxies)

4. Volunteer: A successful nomination — and ultimately a successful general election campaign — depends on volunteers. Whether you can help with membership outreach, event organization, communications, or campaign operations, your time and skills make a difference. (Signup to volunteer)

5. Serve on the Board: Strong EDAs win elections. If you are interested in helping guide the direction of our association, consider serving on the Board of Directors. We need committed Conservative members from Pickering-Brooklin who are ready to build, organize, and lead. All members are invited to our annual general meeting (AGM) and be nominated to the board.

Throughout the candidate selection process, our EDA will remain neutral, fair, and committed to upholding Party rules and our Code of Conduct. Unity after the nomination will be essential as we prepare for the next federal election.

This is our moment to grow our membership, strengthen our organization, and prepare for victory.

If you would like to get involved in any of the ways listed above, please reply to this email or contact us directly.

Let’s build the strongest Conservative team possible — right here in our riding.
