Looks like the federal NDP will never learn.
The NDP has not learned how to read the electorate. Sadly, most voters have biases. Though they will never admit it or acknowledge personal biases, every voter has them. Every person has them. Personal preferences, personal likes and dislikes and often these preferences border negativity, ageism, sexism, racism. The NDP just elected a new federal party leader, shooting themselves in the foot, again.
Avi Lewis may be a very intelligent man, capable, a professional with a notable career in cinematography but…he’s has shortcomings in many people’s eyes and the party has shot itself in the foot by electing him as leader.
No past political success
Never been elected. In fact, numerous political campaigns in Vancouver area have resulted in repeated failures. The nominating representatives must be tone deaf, blind or illiterate. Lewis is a proven loser. So let’s elevate him to the topmost position. That’ll change things. Bet on it.
Mysoginy
At least the provincial NDP can read the writing on the social walls installing a woman as leader. Not the federal nominators. These electors have misread the Canadian electorate before. As much as Jagmeet Singh may have been intelligent, politically astute and a potentially good leader for the party, the inherent racism of many Canadians was ignored as they should have been but the results are self-evident.
Elevating a man to leader of the party when a very capable woman was available is a glaring act of sexism, doomed to failure again. Do you think that little of Canadian voters that they will overlook giving the woman candidate a pass? This incidence of mysoginy will come home to roost with fewer voters checking the NDP box on the next ballot.
As distasteful as it looks, it’s reality. Ignoring tried and proven candidates, favouring a male, these factors may have played a significant role in the failure of the federal NDP in the past. They will again in the future.
Mark it down here
The federal NDP will lose again in multiple ways:
- no vote gains
- no increase in political donations
- no seat gains, rather losses nationally.
The NDP are going no where….wait and see.
