SPEED CAMERAS: *** FAIRPORT BEACH NEIGHBOURHOOD ASSOC. petitions Ford to reverse policy to remove speed cameras

The Fairport Beach Neighbourhood Association has taken a bold step relating to the Ontario govenment’s intention to ban speed camera in Ontario municipalities: a petition. The FBNA is just one of many groups in the province is view Premier Ford’s goal as folly and misguided. Though the FBNA petition may sound heavy handed in its expression, it has the right intention. Ban the ban ! And the neighbourhood association is absolutely correct in claiming that authoritative studies have confirmed that these traffic regulatory devices successfully do what they are intended to do, regulate the speed of traffic in school zones. The devices save lives, children’s and all others in the neighbourhoods where the speed camera are installed and used.

Bravo FBNA and President Phil Warne
____________

Mr. Ford  has passed legislation to remove speed cameras from all over Ontario. We the undersigned demand the return of speed cameras to our City in the “Community Safety/School Zones.” In our community of Fairport Beach-Pickering we have been advocating for speed controls since 1985.  In 2019 we finally got a “speed board” on Oklahoma Dr. between two public schools. In 2022 we finally had a “speed camera” installed on a rotating basis that was shared with other school safety zones. Every peer reviewed study done all over the world has proven that “speed cameras” achieve the desired results. Our MPP, Peter Bethlenfalvy should remember this demand come election time.
