TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET?

What’s the story here?  Any public figure, any government leader is an ‘authority,’ an expert now, whenever they speak?

Dog Ford
Premier Dog Ford decrees that speed camera use in Ontario should be banned. “They’re cash cows, nothing else,” in Ford’s words. No supportive research, no researched confirmation, no expert commentary to reinforce his view. Simply, what he declares should happen must happen. He sees speed cameras as municipalities augmenting their coffers and that’s it. Pushed about the need to regulate traffic, restrict speeds, Ford’s comment is that there are other means for doing so without penalizing citizens by financial penalties.

Researched statistics, expert supported data argues that Ford is wrong on many counts.

Speed cameras are effective in their intent. They are not foremostly intended to be cash grabs. No municipality would dare such an intiative. Otherwise, the next election would see drastic changes. Speed camera, satistically, supported by authoritative data, reduce speeding, FULL STOP. That is most likely the goal of municipalities that use speed cameras and the intent is confirmed by statistics and authorities in the field.

Government leader
Just because the person is a government leader does not mean they are a notarized authority in any field where they make a declaration.

T**** is the most guilty in this field. He makes declarations all over the place making it sound like his is making a factual declaration. Balderdash. T**** even appoints ministers who copy his example. Robert Kennedy, the Secretary of Health has made declarations that like his boss, are medically or scientifically thwarted. That vaccines cause autism. Unproven. In fact, studies indicate no ground for such a declaration. RFK also claims vaccines are useless against measles. Again, medical studies indicate the very opposite is true.

It is quite incredible so many people give credence to unproven statements made by so many political leaders. Either these people are unbelievably gullible or they belong to the cult of these declarers.

Worse, so much of the population believes what they hear from officials and political leaders with no skepticism, no distrust, no doubt the statements may be factually challenged. Challenged by authorities and experts in the field.

Some is very amiss in our society when people trust with no forethought, believe when there is no authoritative support and give reliance to leaders who make expert-questioned declarations.

What a world we are creating for ourselves.
