What kind of stupidity thrives here in Canada? How can it be so ?

What a “screwed-up-thinking” country we live in here in Canada! Maybe once of the safest and most stable countries in the world and we have people who want to tear it apart. What kind of thinking is this?

There are throngs of people who want to immigrate to Canada all over the world. Why? Because we have a wonderful country with freedoms and laws that safe guard us across the whole nation. The only thing we would like to see changed is the climate…make it warmer for 6 mos of the year. But other than that, there is no better country to live in and raise a family than Canada.

You’re free to travel anywhere you want. You’re free to go anywhere you want. You can voice your opinions as you want. And all these freedoms are safeguarded by police forces that are gnerally clean, uncorrupted and fair. This is a wonderful country…FULL STOP.

So why do we have separatists at both ends of the country? Quebec is understandable. The writing is clealy on the wall. French culture is disintegrating and dissipating speedily and relentlessly. But North America is anglophone. English is the language of the continent, the world really. So as rich and valuable as many feel about Quebec culture, it’s days are numbered. Too bad because it enriches all of Canada to have Quebec be part of the country but I live in Ontario, so i am not promoting another province at the expense of my own. But the same token I am not going to denigrate or diminish the beauty, value and richness of Quebec. Their people are a very valuable part of our country and I want them to remain so.

Alberta, on the other hand, may be a different story. They are English speaking predominantly. They are a wealthy province. They have a stable economy. So what is their problem? Voice it, explain it. verbalize it. I have been west and love those people too. They have a distinct culture and rich traditions, customs and way of life. Great and I am glad they are part of our country. I do not want them to separate.

Recently, TorStar writer Susan Delacourt posed “Canadians willing to do a lot to keep Alberta around.” To which I respond, hold on lady, dont rush me. I believe in Canada but not at the dominance of any single province. We need to help each other but not at the expense of one another.

I am confident PM Carney and the federal government see the unity and integrity of the nation as the highest of prorities. Then bring these provinces to the table to discuss national unity, national integrity and national consolidation, not what we can offer them to persuade them to support one country. Supporting national unity should not be questionable, debatable or something to consider. All parts of Canada should be looking at this country as just that, a country. Not a consolidation of independent and sovereign geographic units but one nation, one people united under one flag.

It is a very sad situation to have factions of the citizens who want to break up the country. What happened to nationalism? What happened to love of country? What happened to loyalty to a nation? What happened to the larger “WE” being supplanted by the lesser “we”? What happed to love of country rather than love of part of country?

What is wrong with people? I love Canada and my Canada includes all the land from the Pacific Coast to the Atlantic with no place being more special or extraordinary than any other. They may have different traditions, different cultures, different development and even different languages but ever one of them is Canadian and everyone of them have people are loved and valued as Canadians. I love Canada and my Canada is vast, broad and all inclusive…PERIOD, FULL STOP.
