TURNER: a message, COUNCILLOR WARD 2

GEORGE TURNER is campaigning for the position of COUNCILLOR, WARD 2.

His message to eligible voters of Ward 2….

Hello, my name is George David Turner and I am running for Ward 2 City Councillor.

I have been a resident of Ward 2 for the past 29 years living in the Glendale area. I do not have any
political experience; however, I have delegated against the recent Ward 2 condominium projects which
include the Altona Group, Universal City and Tribute (Liverpool) proposals. I am worried about the
Walnut Lane expansion and how it may impact the local traffic issues.

I retired from Ontario Power Generation in 2018 as the Director, Nuclear Controllership overseeing an
annual Operating and Capital budget of approximately $ 1.0 billion.

I have a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo and spent my entire career in
the accounting sector of public and private enterprises.

My skills include Business and Project planning, Business Process improvement, Leadership, Mentoring
and Coaching, Strategic Planning and Monitoring and Assessing Financial and Schedule results.

I am running for City Council to bring back financial and planning accountability, and transparency to the
position. With Pickering’s growth in population to rise to 150,000 by 2031 oversight of new
developments will be paramount. Upgrades to the current infrastructure including local roads,
stormwater systems, fire services support, parks and recreational facilities will also be required to
support this growth.

My top 5 priorities include:

1. Ensure that all resident development opportunities do not exceed the present height
restrictions that are listed in the city’s Official plan.
2. Ensure property tax dollars are spent wisely and challenge the annual budgeting process to
ensure value for Operating and Capital expenditures.
3. Stop the potential sale of Elexicon shares to fund the City Centre development and provide
alternate financing methods.
4. Review the low-income and senior’s program for expanded eligibility.
5. Attract new industrial and commercial developments.
