The FIFTH WITNESS, Michael Connelly
Michael Connelly is one of contemporary crime fiction’s most celebrated authors, best known for creating iconic detective Harry Bosch and defense attorney, Mickey Haller, The Lincoln Lawyer.
Synopsis
Mickey Haller has fallen on tough times. He expands his business into foreclosure defense, only to see one of his clients accused of killing the banker she blames for trying to take away her home.
Mickey puts his team into high gear to exonerate Lisa Trammel, even though the evidence and his own suspicions tell him his client is guilty. Soon after he learns that the victim had black market dealings of his own, Haller is assaulted, too – and he’s certain he’s on the right trail.
Despite the danger and uncertainty, Haller mounts the best defense of his career in a trial where the last surprise comes after the verdict is in. Connelly proves again why he “may very well be the best novelist working in the United States today” (San Francisco Chronicle).
Richard says
The Lincoln Lawyer series, 3 seasons on Netflix, is entertaining. This can be said about both the Netflix TV series and the Connelly books starring this character.
I have read numerous Connelly books and found the Lincoln Lawyers series to be the most enjoyable. Court room drama with authentic legalese, dialogue that is spot on and engaging, characters that are gritty and appropriate in how they fit and develop Connelly’s stories.
The Fifty Witness delivers all that one expects from a celebrated and popular fiction writer, suspense, tension, excitement and entertainment. Connelly delivers it in this edition but adds a surprising wallop at the end. It will shock you, shake you with its unexpected revelation.
This was an enjoyable read because the story is polished and well-written throughout. The court room scenes are tension filled with authentic legalese. The character are gritty, impactful and believable. The plot is colorful, holding the reader’s attention page after page. Micky Hally grabs you in authenticity and colorful presentation throughout the story. Connelly serves up everything every reader will enjoy, tension, excitement, romance and intrigue.
This was a very good book that had no lapses in engagement with every page. You will be hard pressed to turn off your bedside lamp and close the book for the night.
One of Connelly’s best.
