PICKERING TRAFFIC CONGESTION is now intolerable

Thank you for posting this extensive report of the Mayor’s forum. I was all dressed up and nowhere to go, because I couldn’t get across the 401 from either White’s Rd. nor Liverpool Rd. which was closed by DRPS due to accidents. In the 56 years I have lived in south Pickering I have never experienced this level of gridlock. This scenario tells us everything about what can be expected in the not so distant future as far as emergency response is concerned. Where is the PLAN for moving people, not cars. The 401 was widened from 4 lanes to 6 lanes each way  and yet every morning it is backed up for miles during rush hour. Politicians sit in office for years and yet their best efforts cannot seem to tackle the tough issues of our times. Local Councils wonder why Mr. Ford overrides their autonomy, and takes away powers from school Boards, and gives special powers to Mayor’s who take it. Taxes are just a symptom of the problem. We cannot tax our way out of dysfunctional local Council spending. We are at a crossroads of fiscal responsibility as far as affordable living and lifestyles for young families, and singles starting their careers, trying to get a foothold. Whatever happened to living within our means and don’t spend more than you earn. Its time to elect people to office that will serve the public and not political parties or ideology.
